Southern Maryland
Youth
Leadership
Conference
Students who will be
in the tenth or eleventh grades in September 2008 were invited to
attend the fourth Southern Maryland Youth Leadership Conference
hosted by the Calvert, Charles, Prince George's, and St. Mary's
counties school systems, and Southern Maryland businesses and
organizations.
The conference was held
June 22 through June
25, 2008,
at St. Mary's College of Maryland,
in historic St. Mary's City, Maryland.
One hundred students attended.
Students were engaged in educational activities that will help them
to develop as leaders in the community. These students are future
managers of auto dealerships, high school principals, newspaper
editors, county sheriffs, owners of printing companies, bank
presidents, and more. In the future, they will be leaders of local
businesses and organizations and helping our community
thrive.
Conference Objectives:
* Strengthen or develop leadership skills in students with minimal
leadership experiences
* Create an awareness of leadership opportunities
* Increase knowledge of personal behavior and the impact behavior
has on others and personal circumstances.
* Help students build on their strengths and recognize their
limitations in order to transform themselves into
leaders.
Local businesses and organizations
participated by sponsoring events, seminars, and speakers and/or
provided chaperone assistance.
